Learning to Receive

A puppy story

Snuggle in. I'm going to tell you a magical story. This is a story about Zumi (my now 1 ½ year-old puppy) and Dr Liv (Zumi’s mom’s mom) and RECEIVING.

Zumi was born on February 7, 2022 at 9:07am. We met him for the first time just a few hours later. He was a tiny (but actually huge for a newborn) bundle of snuggly joy. 

Of course, we were in love.

We spent every Tuesday afternoon with him for the next seven weeks. We patted him as he slept on our laps. We comforted him when he did scary things for the first time. We let him gnaw our fingers as his teeth came in. And we loved him with our whole hearts. 

But when we weren't there, Dr Liv and her family were there. They taught Zumi how to walk on different surfaces. They taught him how to eat crunchy food. They even took him to see live music and stroll through Walmart. They loved him with their whole hearts.

And, when Zumi was 8 weeks old, they packed up his favorite blanket and his floppy giraffe and sent him home with us.

HOLY RECEIVING.

Dr Liv and her family had given Zumi so much. They loved him so much. And now they were giving him to us.

I can't imagine a bigger gift. My heart expanded so much that day and my ability to really truly receive leapt to a whole new level.

You see, if someone had asked me, "what's the biggest gift someone could ever give you?" I wouldn't have answered, "millions of dollars" or "a new house." I would have said, "a puppy!"

And it happened. It really truly happened.

Constant conscious evolution isn’t just about following our desires. There’s a whole other side of the equation: Receiving. We can want all day long, but if we’re not ready to really truly allow what we want into our lives, we’ll never manifest our dreams.

This season, may you open your heart more than ever before and really truly receive–not just gifts and compliments, but moments, magic and life. May you relax into alignment and receive your own unique greatness. May you let joy, wonder, love and gratitude leak out of your eyes as you fully digest how wonderful it all is.
